Throughout history, changes in the shape and process of education
have often followed fundamental changes in the structure of
economies. Major economic changes tend to be a source of
disruption and realignment of societies. As we more fully come into a globalized, knowledge-based economy, we are seeing clear signs of
increased economic and social inequality, and perhaps more
importantly, of deep divides in how youth all over the world perceive their future opportunities. The recent outbreak of riots in London
may be just the beginning.
