The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
The program (SNAP) is the largest nutrition
assistance program in the US and a
a critical component of the social safety
net. In addition to providing 39 million eligible low-income people with
an average of $155 of benefits per
month, improving food insecurity
and health,1,2 SNAP also has nutrition education and obesity prevention
a component called Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education
(SNAP-Ed), which is available to low-income populations in general, not
just those that participate in SNAP.
