Hi Priyanjali, to answer the first question; societal constructed roles by society are always very harmful as it doesn't benefit majority of the people, including both gender. For example, a man is expected has to take financial responsibilities of the house entirely while on the other hand, women are expected to take household responsibility. In both the situations, choice is not given to anyone. Patriarchal society puts us into a box and that leads to perpetuation of stereotypes again leading to discrimination and violence based on gender. To answer your second question, as a teacher, you have to first understand your mindset and see the gaps in teaching practices that perpetuates gender notions. You have to start with small things like, asking the girls also to lift heavy objects, encouraging them to play sports, encouraging boys to express their emotions and be kind and respectful to everyone. And, most importantly, as a teacher, teach students as children without letting their gender change your attitude towards them. Hope that answers your question.
