Excellent question!! The trick is not to motivate them about the career choice itself. It's about informing them and helping them understand what the possible consequences of that choice will be. :-) It might be difficult or lonely, without family support, or it might be a bit of a struggle because they're doing something very different to what all their friends are doing. So to really get this right - motivate them, yes - by encouraging, discussing, listening to their feelings, showing them that you are there, but ALSO informing them and preparing them for the next phase - which is KUCH TOH LOG KAHENGE! LOGON KA KAAM HAI KEHNA! hahaa! But you know what I mean. Society can be harsh. But if we are sensible, it is possible to navigate easily! In practicality remember this: 1) any career - what, when, how, why, where - all questions should be asked. 2) personal hobby into career - works for some people, doesn't work for others. Think this through with each child. This is not a mass-class activity. 3) Is there petrol? Choosing something and following it is sometimes more difficult than getting pushed into being an engineer or doctor - because there, at least you have someone to blame!! Here - the full onus is on yourself! So it takes courage. Help build that courage first - then help them to make the dive! :-)
