Greenhouse gases are essential to maintain the average temperature of earth but nowadays human's activities have increased the concentration of greenhouse gases in air which lead to global warming ( increase in average temperature of earth more than normal) .

Greenhouse gases trap the heat of the sun and don't let radiations  get out during night when  earth  radiates the absorbed heat  back to space . The heat get trapped in our atmosphere due to greenhouse gases.

A greenhouse gas is any gaseous compound in the atmosphere that is capable of absorbing infrared radiation, thereby trapping and holding heat in the atmosphere. By increasing the heat in the atmosphere, greenhouse gases are responsible for the greenhouse effect, which ultimately leads to global warming.
