Role and Impact of Technology

What is technology?

Technology can be defined in many ways like a machine, any equipment, any AI-based device, or any man-made product that is used by humans. It also saves time and gives more output in less effort. Anything which is manufactured or is being manufacturing by researchers, scientists, doctors, or any human being can be considered as technology.

Everything can be considered as a technology that is produced by humans like goods or any objects using skills, methods, processes, techniques, ideas, and modes of production.

Some examples: Pencils, Pen, book, notebook, airplane, engine, mobile phone, spectacles, etc.

History and Evolution of technology

The use of technology is not a new thing in the 21st century because it is already being used by humans for many years. if we read the story of Ramayana and Mahabharata, we will see that there were many things which were technology like ratha, Pushpak vimana, bow and arrow, etc which means it is evolving day by day. In this era our dependency on technology is increased even we can say we are totally dependent on technology.

Technology and classroom

Technology can become a boon to education and it can bring a massive change but how? For that need to practice the use of different technical resources in our class and keep an eye on the results constantly. It improves students’ learning level and enhances their visual understanding, for instance, make two groups of students, Group A and B, and then demonstrate the mechanism of a petrol engine with the help of a diagram. For group B, use a video to show how it works. Finally observe both groups that did their conceptual understanding. You will see the students of group B will be able to remember the concept for a long time than group A.

Benefits of Technology in the Classroom

Technology can be very useful and helpful for students to recall and remember concepts for a long. Modern teaching style has various possibilities for improvement to teach arduous concepts. Education means preparing the next generation and hence We need to adopt the technology because it not only helps students to understand the tough concepts but also it nurtures their thinking ability and imagination power. There are lots of benefits of using technology in the classroom from which I have picked some benefits and listed them down below:

  1. A) Improves visual understanding and helps to retain information: If you ask me to recall what my science teacher taught in class 5th or 6th, Probably I will not be able to answer your question because every teacher used to teach using the traditional method, therefore, I could not remember them for long But, at that time I used to watch movies and love to make drawings and if you ask me any dialogue of a movie possibly I will be able to answer. In the same way technology and different teaching style helps us to retain information for a long.
  2. B) Enhances required skills of 21st century: We know that our critical thinking improves when we solve the complex questions of mathematics or science which means we practice and prepare ourselves to think more and resolve the problems. When we work on any project work or make drawing our minds becomes more creative. In the same way, Communication skill enhances when we listen or watch and share our ideas in a group also encouraging us to work together. scientists have for years tried to understand the best ways students learn through research. Their research is defined in a model which is VARK.

  • Visual learners: Those learners who learn better when they see graphs, charts, diagrams, videos, maps, and plans.
  • Aural or Auditory learners: One who prefers discussions, stories, guest speakers, chat for learning.
  • Read/write: Learners with a strong read/write preference for learning like lists, notes, and text in all its formats and whether in print or online.
  • Kinesthetic: People with strong kinesthetic prefer to learn by doing, senses, practical exercises, examples, cases, trial, and error.
  1. C) Increases students’ fun: Learners enjoy when they do activities like group project work, watch videos, listen to audio, games, etc. As students play, they often become very immersed in the activity, increasing engagement and retention.

Technology can be a multiplier for teachers. It reduces workloads, makes learning more fun, and enhances student outcomes. We can see the model of the education system of Finland and learn from them.

John Dewey (An American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer) says, "If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow.
