Nowadays, technology and online teaching have lessened the communication and interactions between teachers and students and also among the students. If the person does not have any verbal means to communicate, actions or behavior may be the only means to make wants/needs known. Communication is critical to continued human development throughout our lives. Whether you communicate verbally or non-verbally, a large part of communication is non-verbal. Somehow, technology has its own benefits but, it causes a lot of losses too. It has become tough to recognize if any of the students are mentally fit or not depressed for any reason. As per my observations, when we meet our students on a daily basis, we understand and communicate better as we can observe their body language, facial expressions, behavior, etc. There can be too many reasons for a kid to be depressed, but here I would like to mention the lack of support from parents. Their high expectations and comparing their kid to others are some other reasons. Depression not only affects a child's health, but also decreases the efficiency of learning, understanding, and remembering the power of the child. You can not just look at a child and know that he/she is depressed, it takes a lot of time and observation. Depression is a serious mental illness that can interfere with a person's life. It can cause long-lasting and severe feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a loss of interest in activities. It can also cause physical symptoms of pain, appetite changes, and sleep problems. To help these kids, we need patience and understanding of the environment they live in. If needed, we should talk to parents regarding it. I found it unusual that any parent or teacher talks about depression with their student/child. And this is how it became the most avoided and serious problem of today's kids.
