There is no age for learning and winning. Ms. Savita Mali, a teacher from Maharashtra has proved this true. She was one of the teachers who won the Vodafone scholarship. The scholarship has helped her in umpteen ways, one of which is making the online teaching-learning process easier.

Mali teaches Science to class 5, 7 and 8th. She likes teaching through practical means by doing experiments with students, by sharing interactive videos and infographics and by giving group activities to students.

What motivated you to become a teacher?
Becoming a teacher was both my mother’s and my dream. In order to fulfill this dream, it gradually became my ambition. It has acted as a motivation during my journey as a teacher.

What is your best memory as a teacher?
I was awarded with the Vodafone Teacher Scholarship. The amount helped me in multiple ways of making my classes smooth and easier. I bought a laptop, tablet, printer, educational books and a laptop bag with the amount of the scholarship. It has made  resting and sharing videos easier.

What new things did you learn as a teacher during the lockdown?
I learnt a lot of things during the period of lockdown. One major skill was video creation about which Gurushala Course modules helped me a lot. Gurushala’s regular online training sessions, course modules and staffroom discussions have helped me in learning new concepts and skills.

How has Gurushala helped you in your journey as a teacher?
Gurushala has helped me develop my confidence a lot. Gurushala helped me as a guide during the teaching- learning process. I am very active on Gurushala website. I regularly attend webinars, staffroom discussions and make lesson plans.

Interestingly, I also participated in the Workshop series organized by Gurushala on the theme of Coding. Towards the end of the workshop, I created a project which was an educational game on the platform Scratch.

What is your life motto as a teacher?
My life motto is to be a good teacher and make my students good human beings and successful in their lives as well. According to me, a 21st century teacher is active and always thinking how their efforts can contribute to the betterment of students.

How do you wish to bring change in society?
I think everyone should be made aware about the importance of education and how we should use it in our life and to preserve nature also.

Mali’s story has taught us that there is no limit to learning. With motivation, perseverance and the right kind of guidance, all dreams can come true. Stay connected with Gurushala for more such inspiring stories!
