Stories of Indian Classrooms

An inspiring teacher story from Chhattisgarh

Tell us about yourself

I have been teaching for the last ten years and I learn each day how to be a better teacher to my students. I teach to grades 1st to 5th and I find it very interesting to interact with different children each day and I also learn many things about their perspective of life from them. I have always been fond of teaching and I am really happy with my life as a mentor.

What is your most preferred way of teaching?

Activities are the best way to reach out to weak students as they may find it difficult to understand any topic but by practically performing the same task, they can retain better and it is easy for them to understand. Moreover, by assigning group activities they actually get to learn not only from teachers but their peers as well.

What motivated you to become a teacher?

My motivation is my father as he was a teacher himself and when I was young, I used to see him teaching his students which was inspiring for me and many others. Therefore, at a very young age I had already decided that I would like to pursue teaching and become a dedicated teacher like my father.

What is your best memory so far as a teacher?

When the pandemic hit and schools closed down, I was facing few difficulties in order to reach my students and continue classes. Under these difficult circumstances, the best thing that has happened to me was to be introduced to Gurushala. Gurushala was new and exciting as I haven’t experienced a platform like Gurushala before. I learned and gathered a lot of new skills which helped me in facilitating effortless online teaching.

How were you introduced to Gurushala?

I was introduced to Gurushala by the Vikas Khand of Bilaspur. In 2020, I came to know that Gurushala has initiated to give a helping hand to the teachers and students who are seeking tools and resources to make education more effective. It is amazing and very kind of them to take this initiative as it helping teachers like me all of the country. I really like the concept of the website and I am following Gurushala till now and wish to continue it.

What is your favourite section of Gurushala and why?

My favourite section is the courses and content which are available in the form of short animated videos. In a way, it is empowering to learn and know about the students’ mindset and different learning forms. Because of these resources bringing solutions to their problems have become easier. It helped me to be a better mentor as everyday, I learn new things from Gurushala and try to input it in my teaching methods and it has really given me the best results.

What according to you is a 21st Century Teacher?

The teacher should be adjustable to any situation he or she faces. If children are facing any difficulty, he or she should change the teaching methods and move more towards activity, practical, experiments-based methods from lectures. To be a good teacher it is important to understand the students’ problems and try to find solutions best suitable for them.

What is your life motto as a teacher?

My only concern is my students’ well-being and they should get the best of everything. I try every possible way to help them out and always be ready for any of my student's need. I consider myself as their second parents, I treat them as my own children.

How do you wish to bring change in the society?

I want my students to do good in life and become a better person. They should learn in schools and implement them practically in their life. In this way, they will grow up and know what is best for them and they will surely contribute their party of work in the society to change it for the future generations.
