Interested in knowing about the events happening around students, Nishu Sharma was motivated to become a teacher to connect with students. Sharma is a teacher from Delhi who teaches students of class 6th to 8th. Her hobbies include teaching, writing, reading and making art and craft. Her favorite writer is Roald Dahl. She also enjoys reading spiritual books and ancient stories of our Gods.

Let’s get to know Sharma a little more and her ways of teaching and learning.

What according to you is a 21st Century Teacher?
A 21st teacher is the one who cannot only teach the subject but also the implementation of that. Apart from academics, the importance of being kind to each other should also be a part of learning. My most preferred ways of teaching are through videos, images, games, and making students practise regularly.

What is your best memory so far as a teacher?
There are so many memories that I cherish as a teacher. I'd like to share this one here. After completing any chapter, we used to organise quiz competitions among different sections of any class or sometimes within a section. The excitement and participation amongst students is one of the best memories I have with them.

How has Gurushala helped you in your journey as a teacher?
I got to know about Gurushala through my school when we were provided with some material given by Gurushala to share curriculum related videos with students. My favourite section of Gurushala is course modules as I get to learn new strategies, techniques and methods to teach.

The content provided by Gurushala helps me in explaining topics easily and organizing activities for students to evaluate and enhance their learnings. I have participated in many quizzes and won some of them too. I have completed all the courses and modules provided by Gurushala. I frequently answer staffroom questions as well. I have also got a certificate from this organization for being a Teacher Contributor.

What is your life motto as a teacher?
An idea that helps me become a better teacher is, “Make them not only knowledgeable but also a kind and a grateful person”.

How do you wish to bring change in society?
Kids are tomorrow's future. If we succeed in making them a kind person, we can surely bring a change in society.

Through Sharma’s experience, we get to learn how important it is to keep learning as a teacher and contributing to students’ development. To know more stories of Indian Classrooms, stay updated with Gurushala.
