Mental Wellness during Covid

In 2020, our life came to a halt due to covid. We were all packed in our houses. All things which were taking place in physical form shifted to virtual form. Learning to e-learning, meetings to e-meetings, medicine to telemedicine, courts to e-courts and, many more. Google meet and zoom became the mandatory applications for our phones. Every socializing happened in the virtual mode during the lockdown phase. But definitely, it took a toll on our mental health. Spending a lot of time in front of the screen does change our behaviour patterns.

There is scientific evidence for it. The damage which was done by the second wave of covid is irreplaceable. Many children lost both their parents. Many families lost their bread-earner. Now the omicron variant has again created uncertainties regarding the third wave in India. So it is very important to be mentally strong. Our mental health shall not be compromised in any scenario. There are many ways by which we can keep a check on our mental wellness. According to survey findings, around 14% of 15-24-year-olds in India, or 1 in 7 reported often feeling depressed or having little interest in doing things. If mental health is not taken care of then it takes various forms like anxiety, depression, panic, etc.

SOME WAYS TO KEEP A CHECK ON MENTAL HEALTH -

  • YOGA Performing Surya Namaskar daily gives different levels of energy and amazing health benefits. Sparing just 10 minutes every morning to do Surya Namaskar can bring about a lot of changes in almost every aspect of life.
  • MEDITATION Most students find meditation boring. But there are many ways to inculcate it in your daily routine. In the initial stage, just follow on your breathing. Take a deep breath and exhale around 10 times. Slowly you will enjoy the process and feel at ease.
  • WORKOUT Physical activity releases endorphin which uplifts your mood and makes us feel better. It can be in any form i.e., walking, jogging, playing sports, strength training in a gym, Zumba dance, cardio workouts, aerobic dance. All you have to do is pick one which suits your interest. Engaging in physical activity daily for around 45 minutes can do wonders and it will also enhance your personality.
  • READING Engaging your mind in reading makes your brain stronger. Having to follow words and pay attention helps our memory skills improve and get better over time. It can also build up your vocabulary. This can lead to better conversational skills and in turn, lead to much-improved communication.
  • REDUCING SCREEN TIME These days constantly checking phones is a new type of addiction. This addiction has made young ones impatient. Social media or gaming time should be limited. Energy should be invested in constructive work. It also improves focus. Change in behaviour patterns is also seen these days due to this addiction.
  • LISTENING PODCASTS There are many great people around the globe and we can know about them listening to their podcasts. It will definitely change your perspective regarding things in life and will make you strong mentally.

It is very important to feed your mind with good things because "You reap what you sow". If we want to make India a superpower in the coming years, we have to channelize the energy of our students in the right direction. It can only happen when our youth is mentally and emotionally strong. Coming years are going to be very crucial for India so it is important that students help the country to grow and take it to a different level.
