My name is Rumy Sarkar. I am a Science Aacharya at Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, Kumhartoli, Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. Jharkhand is famous for Minerals and diverse tribal cultures. This state has a historical significance. Hazaribagh as the name suggests is full of greenery & this place resides in the lap of mother nature.
Recently one of my students wanted to do a teacher interview with me. Those questions made me think, reflect and motivate. Here I am sharing a snippet of that interview with you all. Hope this experience of mine will help you reflect too!
What motivated you to become a teacher?
My mother is a teacher of Social Science and from the very beginning, I saw her interaction with students which I found very heartwarming and comfortable. The next person who motivated me was my tutor whose dedication towards studies and his behavior with his students was incredible. Although he belonged to a poor family, he helped many needy students.
What do you love the most about teaching?
Teaching is not bound to textbooks, we can teach anything we like and when we teach, we start learning and it is always refreshing. Exchange of ideas, thoughts, memories, and establishment of strong relations are qualities of teaching.
How are you teaching your students in the period of lockdown?
I have made YouTube videos so that students could understand the topic and need not download it. Most of our students belong to middle and lower-middle-class families, they use mobile phones with limited storage capacities. These videos not only help them but also help those who were unable to attend online classes.
What are the challenges you are facing while teaching during the period of lockdown?
Students were enthusiastic during lockdown when we started our online classes but later on, it started hampering their health they started complaining about headaches, visual problems, etc. Some even lost interest in classes as they were not used to virtual classes. The unavailability of mobile phones was also a major issue.
When and how were you introduced to Gurushala?
Our institution Vidya Bharati is a partner institution with Gurushala. In the year 2020, we got to know about Gurushala through our school's official WhatsApp group. Since then I started exploring Gurushala. I did many self-paced courses on Gurushala and also implemented some of them like the buddy system which I found very beneficial as students have started learning qualities like adjustment, cooperation, brotherhood, etc.
What do you wish to say to your students in this period?
I hope this period will soon be over, but during this period we learned a lot of things that if we are together and cooperate with each other, we can face any difficult situations and come out as winners.
Unity is Strength!
