Decision-making is a skill that we learn throughout life and it evolves with our different life experiences. It is a process that we all have to go through on a daily basis. It can be small changes or big ones, but it can highly impact our lives. Our one decision can have an impact on society, relationships, and the environment.
Decision making depends on various factors which include:
“You can’t make decisions based on fear and the possibility of what might happen.”-Michelle Obama
When we wake up, whether consciously or unconsciously, we are making decisions. Which begins with what to eat initially, and which continues with what to eat next? What should I wear today, and what should I wear tomorrow? Whom should I talk to, and who should I not talk to?
We're all caught up in the moment, preoccupied with little matters. Everyday thoughts are more commonly linked to decisions made for the future that appears to be of little importance. We don’t think those small decisions we make at the moment, like going to school or college, staying in and studying, or going out and partying, can affect our future. Even when it comes to shopping for groceries or selecting the ideal lifemate, decision-making plays a significant influence. Our choices have an impact on who we are today and who we will be in the future.
The area of our brain that makes decisions is continually functioning, and it is becoming more mature by the day.
As a result, every decision we make in our lives, every action we take, whether correct or incorrect in our opinion, can bring us joy, misery, motivate or demotivate us.
