We all are familiar with what a birthday is. But for the exceptional audience, I’ll define it. A birthday is a celebration of the birth of a person or an establishment. People around the globe have their own ways of celebrating one’s birthday.
Albeit there is a difference between birthday, birth date, and birth-night. All three are different words with different meanings of their own.
We consider a birthday as a special day for the person whose birthday is being celebrated. It comes once a year. Birthdays are like a celebration for growing up, to adulting and, to entering a new stage of life. It’s a way of celebrating surviving one more year, sharing and creating memories with your friends, family, and loved ones. In many cultures, the 15th and 18th birthdays are special because the person at these ages transforms or enters a significant stage of life. These ages are also the time when a child enters puberty or physically and mentally develops and becomes an adult. We acknowledge the 25th birthday as the silver jubilee, the 50th birthday means golden Jubilee and if you are fortuitous enough to celebrate your 100th birthday, then it is known as Platinum Jubilee. Birthdays provide everyone with an extraordinary day when they can feel special and get pampered. It is a day one enjoys, eats their favourite food, and has a gala time with their loved ones. For some people, birthdays are more than just a special day of the year. For example, in Chinese culture and many other cultures, they form horoscopes based on the position of the stars and planets at the time of their birth. Horoscopes hold special value in some people’s lives, as they believe they can tell you a lot about your personality, fate, and present. Based on your birth year, they assign an animal from the Chinese zodiac, the lunar calendar. In different cultures, we celebrate birthdays with fun activities and traditions. Birthdays are made even more special by giving gifts and presents.
